Baughman Aluminum Trailers

Baughman Products trailers are built by hand, by Rich Baughman and his small crew of skilled welder fabricators in Layton, UT. Rich’s background is in engineering and these trailers are engineered and over-built to the max! All trailers are engineer certified. The materials used are as US sourced as possible, including the aircraft grade 6061-T6. 6061-T6 aluminum properties include its structural strength, toughness, and weldability; along with its non-corrosive characteristics. The aluminum used varies in thickness from 3/16 to ¼ inch, depending on area of application (no 1/8” found on these trailers). All channels and tubes are oversized, which is done to provide you with the toughest, most capable and versatile product on the market. All welds are wrapped where possible, stitch welded and crater filled for added strength and toughness and durability. Tires are 6 ply radial rated 14” or 15” depending on the trailer model. All of the wood deck trailers (doug fir) include 900 lb. rated flush mounted D-rings along both sides.

Available Lengths:

Single axle trailers are available in 10’, 12’, and 14’ lengths. All trailers over 14’ are tandem. Tandem axle trailers are available in 10’, 12’, 14’, 16’, 18’, 20’ and 22’. All tandem axle trailers have brakes on both axles and an electronic emergency breakaway.

Axles:

The axles used are Lippert EZ Lube 3500 lb. axles attached in an 8 bolt (on single axles) or 12 bolt (on tandem axles), with a robust leaf spring system and greaseable suspension components. Leaf spring axles are used for off-road toughness and ease of readily replaceable inexpensive parts versus the expense and time it takes to replace a torsion axle that could leave you stranded if it were to fail. Using springs also allows for an equalizer to be used on the tandem axle trailers which allows for load transfer and better towability. Torsion axle trailers do not allow for equalizers. The Car Hauler HD’s (CH10) come with a 5200 lb. axle upgrade, also Lippert EZ Lube. All tandem axle trailers come standard with electric brakes on both axles.

Ramp and Rear Gate Weight Recommendations:

The ramps and rear gates are built for ATV and UTV use with a max vehicle weight of 3,000 lbs. The ramps on the car hauler light (CHL) are rated for a max vehicle weight of 4,500 lbs. and the ramps on the car hauler HD are rated at a max vehicle weight of 6,500 lbs.

Ramp and Rear Gate Length:

Ramps for the AS and ASR angle side trailers are 79.5″ long.
Ramps for the Car Hauler trailers are 71.5″ long.
Ramps for the deckover trailers are 8′ long.
Ramps for the EXR trailers are 62″ long.
Fold down rear gates are 52″ long.

Deck Heights:

AS and ASR 24″
RG, CHL, EXR, FBR 22″
CHHD 24″
Deck Over 34″

Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings:

The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) on the single axle trailers is 2,999 lbs. less the weight of the trailer, which is listed below. The GVWR on the tandems is 7,000 lbs. less the weight of the trailer. The GVWR on the Car Hauler HD with 5,200 lb. axles is 9,990 lbs. less the weight of the trailer.

Trailer Configuration Options:

7’ Deck Width = 80.5” overall Width 100.5”

6’ Deck Width = 72.5” overall Width 92.5”

Deck Over Width = 98” overall of 102”

All of the trailer tongues are all 4’ long so add that to the deck length for overall length.

How to Decode the Model Number: Example: BP714AS =

BP = Baughman Products (the manufacturer)
7 = Deck Width
14 = Deck Length
AS = Angle Side (the configuration)

EXR = Straight Side w/Removable Side Ramps and Rear Gate.  EXR models are available in single axle (12’ and 14’ deck lengths) and all tandems 14’ and up.  The EXR models are straight-sided trailers with ramps that slide out of the front sides which allows for an ATV to be loaded sideways and it also has a rear fold down ramp for easy rear loading.  All EXR trailers use 15” wheels.

AS = Angle Side w/2 ramps; one in the front and one at the rear.  Angle Side trailers offer a unique feature that allows you to attach the ramps anywhere along either the side or back of the trailer for ease of loading or unloading.  You can even drive over the fender.  Loading your ATV from the side of the trailer allows you to fit more machines on the trailer than if loaded from the rear.  You can also load a UTV from the rear and ATV’s from the side, making every bit of space count.  We order all Angle Side trailers with stake pockets to allow for points of tie down and the ability to build a fence should the need arise.  Single axle AS trailers use 14” wheels and the tandems use 15” wheels.
